Brianna Denison

Song by her brother and Danielle DeTomaso: http://www.jainlemos.com/Not_Time_to_Say_Goodbye.mp3

What is happening in the world?

Some 'man' not only felt the need to rape a woman, but was so violent in doing so that he inadvertently (or so they say) murdered her. A woman, a nineteen year old girl from Reno High, was murdered while home for winter break.

What's worse is that it could have been prevented.

TWO incidents (that were reported) occurred before she disappeared. Two incidents in the same area following the same scenario. Yet for some reason, no one really knew about this.

I am constantly disgusted by the excuse for "news" that Reno has, but this is just beyond any disgust.

This is disappointing. And for those of you who know me, disappointment is the worse of any feelings I can feel towards something.

The news in that town has been brushing the prior incidents aside--some sort of attempt to keep up Reno's good wholesome image I imagine. But now what has happened. People like Bri, like me, who don't live in Reno were completely unaware of those incidents. Also, I was in Reno when one of them occurred and heard NOTHING about it.

Granted, I limit myself to the front page and the whole page on the Nation Reno has to offer, but I generally do keep myself semi-informed while in Nevada.

Had the city been made well aware of the prior incidents and actually informed its citizens, life would be so much different. All it takes is an AWARENESS of a problem for action to occur. It's so simple, yet apparently keeping up an image is more important than saving people's lives.

Well Reno, are you happy? You now can no longer uphold this image to the public. A murder/rape occurred, along with a kidnapping, and quite frankly, that is not something you can hide.

I don't even know what to say. This is a town that my entire family lives in. Please stay safe and keep yourselves informed. Know the danger surrounding you at every minute. Let the media know that this lack of representation of the real issues is NOT OKAY.

And find the bastard. He was already allowed to do this several times--now he needs to pay.

Remember. Reno is a city. As Mpiko said, it needs to be fully recognized as a "ciudad cosmopolitana." Even I have to recognize that the small little hellhole I hate and love is an actual city--the same proportion of violence in a smaller area, leading to a higher chance of knowing the victims of crime. So please. STAY SAFE.
